കെടാവിളക്ക്

Aryavaidyan P K Warrier, the doyen of Ayurveda, passed on to his divine abode earlier this month, leaving a void in the field of Ayurveda and healthcare. He was an elder brother, friend and guide to my father.  His passing on leaves an empty space in my father’s heart that will never be filled.

I share here Achhan’s poetic tribute to the departed soul who was a gentle healer and a great humanist. The poem rendered in the mellifluous voice of Dr. K. V. Rajagopalan, Kottakkal Arya Vaidya Sala, offers a prayer to the ‘kedavilakku’ – the ‘eternal lamp’ – that dwells in the ‘sivamandiram’ (Kailasamandiram) – the ‘abode of Lord Siva’.

The poem was rendered at the release function of the book “Vaidyathinte Bhoomiyum Akaashavum’, which in itself is a tribute to Dr. P. K. Warrier, by Dr. K. Muraleedharan.

The listeners may find a slight variation in the words between the rendition and the poem below. That is because Achhan has revisited and revised the poem.

കെടാവിളക്ക്

ഒരിക്കലും കെടാതെങ്ങും 

   പ്രഭാപൂരം പരത്തുന്ന 

"ശിവമന്ദിര"ത്തിൽ വാഴും 

  മണിവിളക്കേ!

ഒരിക്കലും നിലക്കാത്തൊ-

  രമൃതവർഷമെ പാരിൽ

വിനയത്തിൻ ദയാവായ്‌പിൻ 

  നിറകുടമേ!

വെളുത്തവസ്ത്രങ്ങൾ ചുറ്റി 

  ഭസ്മം പൂശി ആതുരരെ 

പരിചരിക്കുവാനെത്തും 

   കൽപ്പദ്രുമമേ 

ഒരിക്കലും നശിക്കില്ലാ 

   സ്നേഹസാന്ദ്രസ്‌മരണകൾ 

ഒരിക്കലും മറക്കില്ലാ

   മഹത്പ്രഭാവം

അനശ്വരനങ്ങയ്ക്കനു -

  ശോചനങ്ങൾ അർപ്പിച്ചീടു-

മറിവില്ലാത്തവർ നാമീ 

  അനുഗാമികൾ 

പ്രതിജ്ഞ ചെയ്യുന്നു ഞങ്ങ-

   ളങ്ങയുടെ വഴികളി-

ലവിരതമഖിലർക്കു-

   മാശ്വാസമേകാൻ 

ഭവാനിങ്ങുകൊളുത്തിയൊ-

   രറിവിൻ്റെ വിളക്കുക-

ളണയാതെ നിലനില്ക്കാ-

   നനുഗ്രഹിക്കൂ

നമസ്കരിക്കുന്നു ഞങ്ങ-

   ളത്തിരുസന്നിധിതന്നിൽ 

നമസ്കാരം നന്മയുടെ
